Serving our Senior Citizens
In line with its mission of “Serving the Nation”, NIC recognises their need for health care and is committed to serve our senior citizens, through free health awareness and screening initiatives, developed and delivered through its Community Engagement Programme.
In September 2018, NIC launched #GetHealthy Elders Day, an initiative of the #GetHealthy on Route8 nationwide community engagement programme. #GetHealthy Elders Day aims to raise health awareness for our elderly and their need for palliative care, through free health tests and check-ups.
Our first #GetHeatlhy Elders Day for the year 2020, took place on February 7 at the Gayasingh Ashram in Port Louis, where 85 residents received a free health check-up and an eye test. 70 residents were referred for further tests.
As at date, 5 #GetHealthy Elders Day were carried out where nearly 300 senior citizens received free health check-ups and eye tests, with the collaboration of our health partners.
