With a view to fulfil its corporate mission of “Serving You, Serving the Nation” and play a broader societal role in the country, NIC has adopted the 3rd Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), “Good Health and Well-Being” and has embarked onto a nationwide Community Engagement Programme to make Healthy Living accessible to the Mauritian nation.
The programme, under the “#GetHealthy on Route8” campaign, promotes the 8 steps to a Healthier Lifestyle in collaboration with NIC’s broad network of established healthcare service providers and partners. The “#GetHealthy on Route8” campaign is spearheaded by the NIC health caravan, which is specially conceptualised to support this national cause and follow 8 prime routes to make healthy living more accessible to the public, across the island.
The “#GetHealthy on Route8” campaign was launched in October 2016, providing free health checks & screening and other healthy related activities to the Mauritian public. Four campaigns have already been carried out, at Bagatelle Mall, Riche Terre Mall, Flacq Coeur de Ville and Vieux Moulin Rose-Belle respectively, and have attracted almost 8,000 visitors. Nearly 3,000 people were screened, out of which around 40% were referred for further tests.
The success and impact of this newly launched innovative health campaign in Mauritius culminated into an award-winning trophy with NIC being recognised as a “Socially Responsible Organisation” in the Africa Leadership Awards.
